Afghanistan delegation attended the UNECE meeting on Integrated Water Resources Management as well as water study tour of Switzerland

The Afghanistan delegate participated in the 11th meeting of the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources Management under the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention) in the UN, Geneva, October 18-19, 2016. In addition, the delegates from Afghanistan and Pakistan jointly attended a water study tour in Switzerland aimed to share Swiss experiences on transboundary water management, disaster risk reduction, flood protection, dam management and hydropower. The study tour aimed to share the Swiss history and rationale, approaches and experiences on water management and provided an opportunity for two countries delegates to learn and exchange.
Ambassador Suraya Dalil, Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the UN based in Geneva provided an opening remarks at the onset of the study tour stressing on the importance of the water management in the Afghanistan foreign policy. The Charge de Affairs of Pakistan Permanent Mission to the UN based in Geneva also gave remarks. The study tour was organized by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Geneva Water Hub, and Swiss Water Partnership. The Afghanistan Permanent Representative based in Geneva is thankful to the Swiss authorities for this practical and relevant learning opportunity.

Ambassadors and diplomats from the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) together with WTO and trade experts discussed the South-South trade and investment in a dialogue organized by the People's Republic of China and the WTO Secretariat on September 19-20, 2016 in Annecy, France. Ambassador Suraya Dalil, Permanent Representative of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the UNOG and Mr Bilal Ahadyar, Second Secretary of the Embassy, attended the Dialogue.
