AFGHANISTAN AND AUSTRALIA LONG COOPERATIVE BILATERAL RELATIONS

On 22nd February 2016, H.E. Dr. Suraya DALIL, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the United Nations Office met H.E. Mr. John QUINN, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Australia to the United Nations in his office at the Australian Permanent Mission in Geneva.

In this meeting, both Ambassadors acknowledged the long cooperative bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly Australia’s role in security, health, and education projects in Afghanistan. Ambassador DALIL among others; praised the important role of Australia in making Afghanistan a secure and self-reliant nation again. Australia’s humanitarian assistance, empowering women and girls and strengthening agriculture and rural livelihoods were likewise appreciated.

Both Ambassadors while expressing their commitment to further strengthening ties, endorsed the multicultural environment of Geneva and agreed upon a pragmatic approach to all United Nations mechanisms and other International discussions at the Geneva level. Furthermore, the two Ambassadors exchanged their points of view on how United Nations should realize its experiences in different areas and on how those good experiences can be replicated trans-sectors and advancing UN and human rights agendas.

Ambassador DALIL stated that there are opportunities for both countries to further deepening corporation and the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Geneva stands committed to work proactively in order to facilitate the good relations.
