The 104th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) takes place in Geneva

From 1st to 13th of June 2015, ILO convened its 104th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva bring together more than four thousand participants from around the world. President François Hollande, President Juan Carlos and the 2014 Noble prize winner Mr. Kailash Satyarthi were among the guest speakers.

Afghanistan Delegation led by H.E Dr. Nasrin Oryakhil, Ministry of Labour, Social, Martyred and Disabled arrived in Geneva on 30th of May 2015 and  on 8th June 2015, Minister Oryakhil delivered her speech, emphasizing on solution for unemployment and under-employment, labour migration, forced labour, and child labour. H.E further added that; unemployment is still the biggest social problem in Afghanistan, which in many cases resulted in de-stabilizing security and provoked farming and trafficking of narcotics in the country. H.E Minister Oryakhil in an update on the achievement of the Afghan Government talked about the implementation of project on pension service’s reform for the government employees as well as the amended pension regulation to cover the private sector workers in Afghanistan.

Women at work initiative, the green initiative, ending poverty initiative, standard application, enterprise, social justice, forced labour and wages were among the important topics discussed during the 104th annual meeting that were supported by all delegations.

On the side-line of the meeting, in order to further strengthen relations with ILO and its member States, H.E Minister Oryakhil met the Deputy Director General of ILO and valued ILO’s assistance in developing the draft national Labour policy for Afghanistan and demanded the expansion of ILO’s activities in Afghanistan. In the course of her bilateral meetings, H.E Minister Oryakhil met her counterpart from Iraq and both Ministers agreed on exchanging information on labour skills and technical experts.

Upon the departure of H.E Minister Oryakhil, Mr. Khair Mohammed Niru, Director General of manpower and work agreement of Ministry of Labour, Social, Martyred and Disabled held meetings with several delegations from the region countries and the United States.
