Minister Anwary attended 64th annual Executive Committee Meeting of UNHCR

H.E. Dr. Jamaher Anwary, Minister of Refugees and Repatriations (MoRR) headed the Afghan delegation to the 64th annual Executive Committee (ExCom) Meeting of UNHCR held from 30 September to 4 October 2013 in Geneva.
The 64th Session began with a High-Level Segment on Solidarity and burden-sharing with countries hosting Syrian Refugees such as Jordon, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey and Egypt. The high level segment agenda consisted of discussions on various humanitarian issues related to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced (IDPs), stateless persons, protection of the people of concerned and UNHCR’s internal audit, accounting and budgetary issues.
H. E. Dr. Anwary, Minister of Refugees and Repatriations of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan during the ExCom on 1October 2013 discussed the situation of Afghan refugees and expressed his gratitude to the Government of Iran and Pakistan for their hospitality to host a significant number of Afghan refugees.
H. E. Dr. Anwary recognized that voluntary repatriation is decreasing and emphasized that the implementation of the long term economic and social development programs will be key to further voluntary repatriation and stabilizing population.
On the sideline of the ExCom, on 2 October 2013 a Consultative Session on the SSAR was held in which achievements, challenges and opportunities of SSAR Implementation were discussed with International partners.
Afghan delegation also held important bilateral meetings with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the delegation of Australia in which issues related to Afghan refugees and returnees were discussed.
