On Thursday 20 July 2015, Mr. Peter Maurer, President of ICRC received Mr. Azizullah Omar, Charge d’Affair of the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations in his office at the ICRC Headquarter in Geneva.

At the outset, Mr. Omar acknowledged ICRC as a good partner of Afghanistan in providing assistance to the victims of War, supporting hospitals and improving the water and sanitation services all over Afghanistan. He valued the cooperation of ICRC in strengthening the work of Afghan Red Crescent Society. He further thanked Mr. Maurer for ICRC’s strong commitment in providing technical and financial support to the clinics and to the community-based volunteers delivering health care to Afghans in the conflict-affected areas.

Mr. Maurer, while thanking Mr. Omar for his courtesy visit, said “Afghanistan remains in our top 10 operations and we continue to expand our operation all over the country in order develop capacity of the Afghan Red Crescent staff and other health personals who are carrying out humanitarian programs in the community“.

Subsequently, Mr. Omar recalled that the Afghan government in the country level as well as through its Permanent Mission in Geneva strongly support the work of ICRC and stand committed to offering any support needed.
