International Day of Nowruz

On 25th March 2014, at the Palais des Nations, The Permanent Missions of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkey, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan celebrated the International Day of Nowruz.
Nowruz as a spring festival is celebrated by over 300 million people around the World as the embodiment of the unity of cultural heritage and centuries-long tradition. The celebration of Nowruz at the United Nations Office is a remarkable opportunity for countries to further strengthen the ties among people based on mutual respect, peace and good neighborhood. Nowruz is recognized by the United Nations General Assembly (A/Res/64/253) and is included on the UNESCO list of Intangible
The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan brought the real spirit of the spring through a colorful presentation with tulip flowers and by serving variety of Afghanistan traditional food. Afghanistan table attracted all the observers’ attention and hosted a larger number of the guests.
In an inaugural remark the Director General of the UNOG and Permanent Representative of Iran to the UNOG who functioned as the co-coordinator of the event, both with their inspiring words presented their Nowruz greetings and welcomed everyone to the event.
