On 11 December 2014, TEDx stage was held in the Assembly Hall of the United Nations Office in Geneva to showcase remarkable stories of people helping people. The theme of the TEDxPlaceDesNations was “Impact” and speakers were innovators, humanitarians, entrepreneurs, scientists and peacemakers who talked about the impact they were making to find solution for today's challenges in order to shape tomorrow's world.

Ms. Fauzia Koofi, Member of the Afghan Parliament, was among the speakers at the TEDxPlaceDesNations, whose talk was based on “when women are at the table”.  Ms. Koofi talked about her journey into Afghan Politics and the challenges she faced from the harsh topography, internal conflict and intermittent wars in Afghanistan. She began by talking about her experience as a young women who had to flee her home country due to war and her return back to the country as Representative of the people of Badakhshan and Chairperson of the Women, Human Rights & Civil Society Commission. She concluded her talk by saying that “Giving up is not what we do. We fight, we survive and we live”.
